Is swine flu different than the regular flu?

I've heard that the big deal with Swine Flu is the flu that supposedly only pigs are affected by has mutated and can now affect humans. This is big agreed, but is there any difference in symptoms or the likelihood that you will contract the flu? If not, why are we getting so scared?
